There weren’t many medal events today. The Olympic schedule consisted mainly of hockey and curling. Of the four medal events that actually took place, we only took home one medal. The U.S. team needs to keep pushing, if they run out of steam now, Team Germany will overtake us in total medals.
Currently, the U.S. is in the lead with 25 medals, 7 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze. Germany is right behind us with a total count of 21 medals, 7 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze. Norway, the Russian Federation, and Canada are still a ways off with a total of 14, 11, and 10 respectively. Rounding out the bottom of the list is Great Britain, Estonia, Finland, and Kazakhstan with only 1 medal each.
Ice Hockey – Women’s Play-offs Semifinals – Game 15
It should be no surprise by now, but the American team wins by a landslide again. The crushed the Swedes 9 – 1, with Pernilla Winberg scoring the only goal in the second period for her country. On the U.S. team, it was Monique Lamoureux who dominated on the ice today, scoring three goals on her own. One goal was in the first period and then another two in the third period.
Figure Skating – Ice Dance – Free Dance
Meryl Davis and Charlie White, took home the silver medal for us today in the Ice Dancing event. The figure skating couple are both students attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The gold was snatched away by the Canadian skating couple Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. They won with a total score of 221.57, which was less than six points higher than the U.S. team. Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin of the Russian Federation took the bronze medal, just beating the fourth place American team.
