In the men’s 500m finals, Apolo Ohno was disqualified for pushing Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada. Although Ohno avoided falling, he supposedly caused the falling of Tremblay and South Korean Sung Si-Bak. The Canadian was still awarded the bronze and Sung Si-Bak the silver. The day wasn’t a total loss, we still took two medals today.
Ice Hockey – Men’s Play-offs Semifinals – Game 27
The men’s hockey team defeated Finland 6 – 1 to advance to the finals. The 21 year old Patrick Kane, was the high scoring player getting two goals in the first period. Finnish player Antti Miettinen, scored the only goal the entire game. Because the Canadians just beat Slovakia 3 – 2, it means that we will be battling them in the finals.
Short Track – Ladies’ 1000 m Finals
The 21 year old Katherine Reutter took the silver medal in the short track event. This silver will go nicely with her bronze in the 3000 m relay. It was Meng Wang of China who amazingly took her third gold. Seung-Hi Park of Korea won her second bronze here in Vancouver.
Short Track – Men’s 5000 m Relay Finals
The Canadians and Koreans won the gold and silver medals respectively. It was unfortunate that Ohno couldn’t bring us another medal in the 500 m, but at least he helped to bring us the bronze in this event. The U.S. team that helped bring us this bronze was J.R. Celski, Apolo Ohno, Travis Jayner, and Jordan Malone.
