It didn’t take long for the sponsors to start pulling their endorsements. Just a week ago, Tiger decided to take matters into his own hands and publicly apologized for the wrongs he has caused his family and friends. Unfortunately, it didn’t make a difference to some of his sponsors and now Gatorade has decided to jump ship as well.
Since this whole sex scandal started, it’s just been a PR nightmare for him. For a while, he completely disappeared from public spotlight trying to avoid the press. Before all this happened, was making about $100 million a year. Then one day he crashed his car in Florida, and that’s where his life began to unravel…
The first companies to go were his AT&T and Accenture deals. Then, probably through no fault of his, he lost Buick. It was most likely due to the economy as opposed to his public image. Today Pepsico, the owners of Gatorade, made a statement saying “We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship.”
There are a few companies who still believe in “Tiger Woods” and haven’t left the golfer yet. Nike, one of his oldest sponsors, are still holding despite their major losses in this economy. Another major sponsor is EA Sports, a video game company.
