No one ever thinks about dieing on a cruise, but I guess we have to think twice now. Yesterday, a German and an Italian man, were killed when huge rogue waves hit a cruise ship sailing around the Mediterranean. The waves were reported to be around 26ft. high and caused glass windows all over the ship, to shatter.
The ship, MV Louis Majesty , was sailing from Barcelona in Spain to the Italian city of Genoa with 1,350 passengers and 580 crew members on board when it was hit. The impact of the waves caused the two male passengers to incur fatal injuries and 14 others to incur non fatal injuries. A 62 year old one woman who broke both her legs, was one of the passengers sent to the hospital, when they were forced to dock in Barcelona, Spain. Despite the accident it did not appear that other passengers were being allowed to leave the ship in Barcelona.
The cruise ship, operated by Louis Cruises, has 732 cabins and the capacity to accommodate 2,000 passengers and crew. The complete itinerary was a 12-day cruise from the ports of Genoa and Marseilles in the western Mediterranean calling at Tangiers, Casablanca, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Cadiz, Cartagena, Barcelona and was due to return to Genoa today. A spokeswoman for the Barcelona port authority said that the vessel would continue to Genoa.
