Nokia Aeon
According to sources, Finnish phone maker Nokia, has recently filed patent applications here in the US. The patent is not for a new phone, but for a device that can pretty much power any piece of mobile technology. Many are speculating that this breakthrough will lead to a phone that charges itself and end the dependency for batteries.

Basically, this phone would use the kinetic energy created when a person moves around, to create the electricity needed. To go into a little more detail, the device will be utilizing the special properties of piezoelectric crystals. These crystals are able to generate an electric field or electric potential in response to applied mechanical stress. Previously, it would have been impossible to apply this technology to phones and other mobile devices, but recent breakthroughs in manufacturing allow a wider range of applications for these crystals.

Unfortunately, Nokia would not reveal when such a phone with this technology would appear on the market. I doubt that it will a company of Nokia’s reputation very long to perfect the device, or at least create a good working prototype. The Finnish phone maker owned 38% of the global cell phone market in and had a net profit of $1.2 billion last year. Globally, they have over 123,000 employees working for them, of which 37,000 are in R&D. With Nokia having almost a third of their workforce in R&D, we should not be surprised when they bring new technologies like this to market.
