Chief of Patrol James P. Hall
Today, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced the appointment of James P. Hall, as the department’s new Chief of Patrol. Chief Hall is set to replace recently retired Chief Robert J. Giannelli. In September 2005, he led a deployment of more than 300 members of the Department to Louisiana to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.

With almost 30 years on the job, Chief Hall rose quickly through the ranks since he joined the NYPD in January of 1981. Prior to his appointment, Chief Hall commanded the Transit Bureau and was responsible for ensuring the safety and security of New York City’s entire subway system. Other previous assignments include Adjutant of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North as well as Commanding Officer of the 71 and 115 Precincts.
