Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) announced that it will acquire technology company Citizen Sports. Citizen Sports generates revenue by building products designed specifically for sports fans and brings them to you via mediums like your iPhone or your social networking site. Hopefully, this integration will further transform Yahoo! into a more personally relevant experience.

Millions of people across the globe use Citizen Sports’ social and mobile products. It gives them the ability to play fantasy sports, fill out brackets, check live scores and read up-to-the minute news on sports including football, hockey, soccer, baseball, racing, rugby, hockey and cricket. The Yahoo! Sports’ content is expected to be integrated into the Citizen Sports products, creating a seamless experience for sports fans wherever they are.

Currently, Citizen Sports generates 39 million unique visits every month in the U.S. The San Francisco based website was formed in 2004 by Mike Kerns and Jeff Ma. The financial details have not yet been released, but the deal is expected to close by the 2nd quarter of this year.
