The NYPD has issued a warning to all people who talk on their cell phones, without a hands-free device, while they drive. According to a press release issued by the city, police will begin the 24-hour initiative on Thursday, March 25th at midnight. If you’re driving within New York City’s five boroughs this week, I would suggest you make sure you remember your bluetooth headset before you leave the house.

According to New York law, individuals using hand-held cell phones while driving in New York City face a fine of $130. Sorry, the term “using” covers talking as well as texting on the phone. Last year, the NYPD issued on average 617 summonses a day to drivers using hand-held cell phones. When running a similar crackdown on January 21st of this year, they caught almost 7,500 people in one day.

Again everyone, be careful on Thursday!!! The city would just love the infusion of cash from your fines.
