Yesterday, Sprint showed off it’s new phone at the CTIA wireless conference in Las Vegas. Working with Taiwanese phone maker, HTC Corporation, they have created a 3G/4G handset running off the new Google Android 2.1 operating system. These new phones will hit shelves sometime this summer, with the new 4G speeds that will blow you away.
The dual-mode smartphone, features a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera, a camcorder, a second 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, HD video-streaming, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Sprint has surpassed it’s competitors, Verizon and AT&T, by becoming the first carrier to deploy 4G services in the US. The company’s 4G services now cover 27 markets in the US and are expecting to add 15 new markets by the end of the year. Verizon, the closest contender, is not expected to roll out a 4G phone until the middle of 2011.
With integrated HD video capture and 4G speeds, HTC EVO 4G makes slow uploads and grainy video a thing of the past. Now, it’s possible to post high-quality video to YouTube or Facebook, even share in real time over the Internet live, via Qik. Adobe Flash technology ensures that rich Internet content, such as embedded video and animation, are displayed the way they are meant to be seen. With built-in mobile hotspot functionality, the phone allows up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to share an internet connection at the same time.
“Sprint continues to lead the 4G revolution as we introduce HTC EVO 4G to give our customers an experience that is unlike anything available in wireless to date,” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO. News of the new phone has sent Sprint’s stock soaring. Over the past two days, they’ve seen an increase of over 10% in their stock price. Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S) is currently trading at about $3.97 a share, up almost 4% for the day.
