This story is about a young girl named Phoebe Prince, who moved from Ireland to western Massachusetts last fall. She was a 15 year old freshman who became the target of older girls looking to put her in her place. The mean natured girls stalked, intimidated, and bullied her beyond her limits. On January 14th, Phoebe couldn’t take anymore and decided to walk into a closet to hang herself.

It was Phoebe’s 12-year-old sister that found her hung in the closet. Even after her death, the bullying teens went right back to school and started badmouthing Phoebe. When a girl was interviewed on the local news station she claimed that bullying at South Hadley was commonplace. When interviewed by State Police detectives, the accused teens said they did nothing wrong, however they did do something wrong.

Yesterday, 9 teens from South Hadley High were indicted in the death of Phoebe Prince. Two teen boys were charged with statutory rape and the girls charged with stalking, criminal harassment and violating Phoebe’s civil rights. Northwestern District Attorney Elizabeth Scheibel announced that school officials won’t be charged, even though authorities say they knew about the bullying and that Phoebe’s mother brought her concerns to at least two of them.
