June 2011 Unemployment map
According to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), the June 2011 unemployment rates haven’t moved much from the previous months. Our country is currently experiencing an 8.1% unemployment rate. Many of the North Western states continue to have the lowest unemployment rates in the country. This month, South Dakota knocked New Hampshire out of the third spot, for the lowest unemployment rates with their 4.8%. North Dakota and Nebraska continue to lead this list with rates at only 3.2% and 4.1% respectively.

On the other side, the three states that continue to have the worst unemployment rates are Nevada (12.4%), California (11.8%), and Rhode Island (10.8%). Of these three, only Nevada and California’s unemployment rate went up since May.

Tri-State Area

New York is maintaining an unemployment rate close to the average. However, we went from 7.9% to 8%, increasing our rate slightly. New Jersey and Connecticut rates are a little higher than ours, but are still manageable at 9.1% each. In fact, New Jersey has come down .3% since last month’s release.
