LIRR Service Suspended Due to Weather

Due to a severe lightning storm passing through the New York region, MTA LIRR train service has been suspended on certain branches. Currently, the storm has passed Queens, so it is sunny in parts like Jamaica. However, there are reports of hail storms as close as New Hyde Park, which straddles the New York City and Long Island border. According to the agency’s website, the weather is wreaking havoc on their signal systems. (more…)

According to the MTA’s press release this afternoon, MTA Chairman Jay Walder has suddenly announced his resignation. He has plans to head to the Far East and take a job as the CEO of MTR Corp. MTR is a publicly traded company that operates rail services in Asia and Europe, and is involved in a wide range of business activities, including consulting and property development. The Hong Kong based company has total revenue of $3.8 billion in 2010 with a supposed $1.1 billion of underlying profit. (more…)

Bloomberg Talks Budget Today

Today, Mayor Bloomberg plans to introduce New York City’s budget plan for the next fiscal year. Previously, the Mayor was considering slashing police officers and teachers to close the budget gap. Times Square Suspect Charged

A Pakistani-born man believed to be responsible for the attempted car bomb attack in Times Square was seized from a jet yesterday seconds before it took off from New York for the Middle East, despite having been placed on a “no-fly” list hours before his arrest. The DoHS (Department of Homeland Security) secretary Janet Napolitano referred to him as an amateur. There was no other information to suggest that there are any other terrorism targets linked to the incident and the evidence so far suggested that this was a “one-off attempt”, Ms Napolitano told Fox News. St. Vincent’s Hospital Closing

According to an announcement on Tuesday by it’s board, St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers has decided to close it’s Greenwich Village location. The current patients doing elective surgeries will have to move to another hospital by next week. The decision to close was due to a huge $700 million debt that organization just could not absorb. NYC Gangs Go Wild Last Night

Early this morning, at least 33 people were arrested due to possible gang members running amok in the city. So many rowdy mobs invaded the city last night, that there were three separate shooting incidents in midtown Manhattan. Four people were taken to the hospital for gunshot wounds, luckily no one was critical nor were there any casualties. (more…)

NYPD Crackdown Warning

The NYPD has issued a warning to all people who talk on their cell phones, without a hands-free device, while they drive. According to a press release issued by the city, police will begin the 24-hour initiative on Thursday, March 25th at midnight. If you’re driving within New York City’s five boroughs this week, I would suggest you make sure you remember your bluetooth headset before you leave the house. (more…)

Police Officer Shot In Bronx

A New York Police officer was shot a few hours ago in the Melrose section of the Bronx. When the officer responded to the call at the housing project, somehow gunfire erupted and he was shot. At least one bullet hit his vest, a couple others landed somewhere near his lower stomach and groin area. Luckily, the officer will survive the shooting and is currently undergoing surgery at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. (more…)

Governor Paterson’s press secretary, Marissa Shorenstein, abruptly quit today amid the scandal in Albany. She would be another top member of Paterson’s administrative team to resign, since the scandal began. Ms. Shorenstein leaves a $154,000 a year job and has already spoken with investigators for Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. (more…)

New NYPD Chief of Patrol

Today, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced the appointment of James P. Hall, as the department’s new Chief of Patrol. Chief Hall is set to replace recently retired Chief Robert J. Giannelli. In September 2005, he led a deployment of more than 300 members of the Department to Louisiana to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. (more…)
