Olympic Closing Ceremonies

Olympics - Ice Hockey Event
Today was the last day of the Olympics, with only two events and the closing ceremonies on the schedule. The U.S. team added one more medal to their long list, but unfortunately it was only a silver. The Canadian team beat us in Men’s Hockey event 3 – 2, but we can be proud of our 37 medals in the Vancouver Olympics. (more…)

U.S.A. Olympics Medal Leader

Speed Skating Men's Pursuit
The U.S. team ensured their position as total medal leader today. They took in two medals, one in bobsleigh and another in speed skating. With a total of 36 medals and only two medal events left tomorrow, we’re guaranteed the spot. Germany and Canada are close behind us with 29 and 25 total medals respectively. (more…)

Apolo Ohno Disqualified – Olympic Update

Apolo Anton Ohno
In the men’s 500m finals, Apolo Ohno was disqualified for pushing Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada. Although Ohno avoided falling, he supposedly caused the falling of Tremblay and South Korean Sung Si-Bak. The Canadian was still awarded the bronze and Sung Si-Bak the silver. The day wasn’t a total loss, we still took two medals today. (more…)

Men’s Hockey Team Shuts Out Swiss

Men's U.S. Hockey TeamOverall, we had a pretty good day. We shut out Switzerland in Men’s Hockey and we won two medals, a good day in my book. The country who really showed their stuff today was Canada. They had a great day, taking four medals out of the five events. They just rocketed by the Russian Federation and are now fourth place in overall medals. (more…)

U.S Gets Silver in Nordic Combined

Unfortunately, we only took one medal today at Whistler, which was in the Nordic Combined event. Norway, Germany, and the Russian Federation took 3, 2, and 2 medals respectively. Germany is right behind us now with 23 total medals to our 26. With five more days left in Vancouver, anything can happen. Team Canada may go on a streak and overtake all the countries. With over 30 medal events left, it’s still anyone’s game! (more…)

U.S. Olympic Medal Update 10

Meryl Davis and Charlie WhiteThere weren’t many medal events today. The Olympic schedule consisted mainly of hockey and curling. Of the four medal events that actually took place, we only took home one medal. The U.S. team needs to keep pushing, if they run out of steam now, Team Germany will overtake us in total medals. Yesterday, we took home a gold in the Alpine Skiing event. Unfortunately, that was our only medal of the night. It was the German and Russian Federation team who really outperformed everyone last night. The Germans won four medals and the Russians won three, out of the six events last night. (more…)

Have you ever studied abroad? The SV Concordia was basically a huge sailboat designed to be a floating classroom. On Thursday, the Concordia was capsized while carrying over 40 high school students. The incident happened about 550km off of the coast of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. (more…)

U.S. Olympic Medal Update 8

Shani DavisYesterday was a great day for the Koreans. They dominated the short track event in both women’s and men’s taking four medals in two events. The U.S. team didn’t do so bad either. We took three medals today out of the six scheduled medal events and we beat Great Britain in Curling – Women’s Round Robin Session 7. The American team is also leading in the total amount of medals acquired in Vancouver. (more…)

Huge Day For U.S. Team – Day 5

Today was a huge day for the U.S. Olympic team in Vancouver. Although we won medals in only three out of the seven events, we won many medals overall. In total, the U.S. team took six medals, of which three were gold. The three events were Ladies Alpine Skiing, Men’s Speed Skating and Men’s Snowboard. (more…)

If you were waiting to hear about how many medals the U.S. team won today, I’m sorry to say that it was none. Out of the five medals events, it was Germany who was the leader. The listed medal events for today were the Men & Women’s Biathlon, Women’s Luge, Snowboard and Speed Skating. This doesn’t mean that the U.S. didn’t perform well today, they were outmatched in Hockey today. (more…)
