China Sterilizes Citizens

In an attempt to keep in line with the “one child per couple rule,” China plans to sterilize those whom have violated this birth control policy. Doctors in China have been ordered to sterilize about 10,000 of these violators, by force if necessary. About 1,300 people are being held in cramped conditions in towns across Puning county, in Guangdong Province, as officials try to put pressure on couples who have illegal children to come forward for sterilization. Strong 6.9 Quake Hits Qinghai China

Just a couple of hours ago, the USGS reported a 6.9 magnitude quake hit the southern region of Qinghai, China. There were no immediate reports of casualties in the remote rural area, though witnesses described houses quickly crumbling. The area near Tibet was was hit with a follow-up 5.8 magnitude quake. Dead Infants Dumped in China River

On a river bank in Eastern China, a fisherman discovered the corpses of infants floating the water. They couldn’t believe their eyes at first, think that they were only plastic dolls, but a closer looks revealed the horrible truth. According to media in China, prosecutors have charged 22 people who joined a wife-swapping club with criminal licentiousness. This supposed crime, which carries a five-year sentence, has recently been a hot topic between lawyers, sex experts and the public. The unofficial club was organized by a 53 year old professor from a university in Nanjing. (more…)

Google Running to Hong Kong

Google Inc. (GOOG) has announced that it will pull out of mainland China. They will circumvent the censorship of their content by moving their search engine operations to Hong Kong, where their content is already unfiltered. This decision is the result of the company’s constant issues with content censorship and compounded when they were the target of hackers from China’s universities. (more…)

Sandstorm Turns Beijing Orange

Sandstorm In Beijing China
A huge sandstorm hit Beijing, China this Saturday turning the sky an orange tint. This is one the strongest sandstorms recorded this year. The country’s expanding deserts have led to a rise in the storms, despite China’s planting of thousands of acres of vegetation in recent years. The worst sandstorm was reported in 2006 and dumped over 300,000 tons of sand on the city. (more…)

President Obama and Dalai Lama

When China first found out that Obama had planned to meet with the Dalai-Lama, they were very upset. China issued a warning to the President, insisting they would prefer the meeting not take place. Yesterday, President Barack Obama goes to the meeting with the Dalai Lama, disregarding China’s reactions, and possibly adding more strain to our country’s relationship. (more…)

China, Korea, Mongola, and Tibet, all celebrate this holiday.
