Morocco Plane Crash

Yesterday, a C-130 transport plane crashed in Morocco with 78 people confirmed dead. Only 2 people survived the crash, but they’re still in critical condition. Authorities are still searching through the body parts to confirm passenger identities and logistics. The plane was transporting troops either to or from Laayoune and Dakhla. Moroccan authorities say that the poor weather conditions were to blame for the crash, but are still investigating the cause. Considered Morocco’s worst military disaster in years, Information Minister Khalid Naciri said searches are on to find all the bodies. (more…)

Oil Rig Explosion Leads to Spill

Last week, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig had a fatal accident, which caused the drilling platform to explode in the Gulf of Mexico. The only tragedy though to have come from this, were the deaths of the missing personnel. However, they did not see the environmental impacts of this explosion until now. (more…)

Oil Rig Blast Gulf of Mexico

BP Oil Rig Explosion
Yesterday, there was a huge oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. The rig, leased by energy giant BP, is still missing 12 members of it’s crew. Luckily, the coast guard reported that 98 of the 126 workers were safe and were on their way to shore. A further 17 had been flown to hospital after the explosion and 7 were critically injured. Mudslides in Brazil Kill 200

Rio de Janeiro Mudslide
Last night, at least 200 people were buried alive in a mudslide near Rio de Janeiro. The Morro do Bumba slum of Niteroi, was built on mounds of rubbish accumulated over decades, making the ground unstable and vulnerable to collapse. The slide destroyed at least 50 homes and one church, which was said to have as many as 30 people inside. (more…)

7.7 Quake Strikes Indonesia

Indonesia Earthquake
A huge earthquake hit the island of Sumatra in Indonesia yesterday afternoon. The 7.7 magnitude quake caused widespread panic, blackouts and triggered tsunami warnings in both Indonesia and Thailand. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties attributed to the quake. (more…)

Less than 24 hours ago, two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on packed underground trains. There are at least 38 confirmed casualties and over 65 people injured. Moscow police are also searching for their accomplices caught on the metro’s CCTVs. (more…)

Another Freak Storm Hits Australia

Hail Damage in Perth
Another freak storm hit Australia last night, leaving 160,000 residents of Perth without power. Hailstones, the size of golf balls and a huge amount rain, bombarded the city causing landslides and floods. Australian Premier Colin Barnett, has declared yesterday’s storm a natural disaster with the damage bill expected to rise into hundreds of millions of dollars. (more…)

Landslides In Uganda, Over 100 Dead

Recently, Uganda has been experiencing sever weather conditions, which increase flooding in the region. The excess water has sparked landslides that has destroyed several roads and many bridges. On Monday night, there were reports of massive landslides that wiped out several villages around Mount Elgon. Since the search began, they have discovered at least 106 bodies from the mud. (more…)

Huge Storm Ravages France

A massive storm ripped through Europe yesterday killing over 50 people so far. Approximately 45 victims perished in France, then there were three to four more deaths throughout Spain, Germany, & Portugal. Chile Quake Tsunami Update

The 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chile has claimed the lives of over 300 people. Although emergency agencies are still unable to tally the actual death toll, they are expecting it to increase significantly around Concepción, Chile’s second-largest city. The massive earthquake early this morning has killed at least 78 people so far. Sources say that the death toll could be more because the 8.8 magnitude quake also triggered a huge tsunami which is travelling at hundreds of kilometers per second. Although Chile is known to experience large tectonic movement, it is rare that they experience one over an 8.0 magnitude earthquake. (more…)
