The state of Arizona has stirred up a lot of controversy this week about immigration law. Their Republican Governor, Jan Brewer, signed into law, legislation allowing police to arrest anyone believed to be an illegal immigrant. At 3:40pm yesterday, a powerful earthquake was recorded near Mexicali, California. The 7.2 magnitude quake was followed by a series of aftershocks between 3.0 to 5.0 magnitudes. So far there has only been one reported death, but there are scores of people who are trapped amongst the rubble of their homes. (more…)
This past Saturday, a pregnant woman working for the US consulate, was murdered along with her husband in Mexico. President Barack Obama expressed outrage against Mexican leaders today, for allowing Americans to be murdered because of their country’s drug wars. Mexican President Felipe Calderon promised a swift investigation for the killings that took place in Ciudad Juarez. There is speculation that these murders were in retaliation to the recent extradition of several Mexican drug barons to America. (more…)
