Phillies Fan Tasered
During the Phillies vs. Cardinals game on Monday night in Philadelphia, a crazed fan ran onto the field during the middle of the game. Questions arose after police had to use a taser to subdue the man. Police officials in Philadelphia are now considering whether officers should get involved when unruly, but non-threatening, fans sprint onto the field during sporting events. (more…)

NYPD Crackdown Warning

The NYPD has issued a warning to all people who talk on their cell phones, without a hands-free device, while they drive. According to a press release issued by the city, police will begin the 24-hour initiative on Thursday, March 25th at midnight. If you’re driving within New York City’s five boroughs this week, I would suggest you make sure you remember your bluetooth headset before you leave the house. (more…)

Police Officer Shot In Bronx

A New York Police officer was shot a few hours ago in the Melrose section of the Bronx. When the officer responded to the call at the housing project, somehow gunfire erupted and he was shot. At least one bullet hit his vest, a couple others landed somewhere near his lower stomach and groin area. Luckily, the officer will survive the shooting and is currently undergoing surgery at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. (more…)

New NYPD Chief of Patrol

Today, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced the appointment of James P. Hall, as the department’s new Chief of Patrol. Chief Hall is set to replace recently retired Chief Robert J. Giannelli. In September 2005, he led a deployment of more than 300 members of the Department to Louisiana to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. (more…)

Another Police Chief Abandons Ship

Just last week, the former New York State police chief Harry Corbitt, announced his retirement amid the growing scandal involving himself, Governor Paterson, and the governor’s aide. Yesterday Corbitt’s replacement, the acting superintendent Pedro J. Perez, also publicly announced his retirement as well. Based on my astute mathematical skills, that means we just lost two senior NYS police officials in two weeks. (more…)
