HP Buys Palm For $1.2 Billion

Earlier today, HP (NYSE: HPQ) announced that it will purchase Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) for $1.2 billion. Palm, a provider of smartphones powered by the Palm WebOS mobile operating system, closed at $4.63 today. However, the stock price has jumped up well over 25% in after hours trading, pushing the stock price to almost $6 a share. (more…)

Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

Yesterday, Google announced that it has cancelled its Nexus One smartphone for use on Verizon’s CDMA network. Google updated its official Nexus One blog to recommend users instead pre-order the new Droid Incredible from HTC, set to be released on April 29th. Previously, users who went to the official Nexus One site seeking a Verizon-compatible handset were told the device was “coming soon.” (more…)

Sprint’s 4G Android Phone

Yesterday, Sprint showed off it’s new phone at the CTIA wireless conference in Las Vegas. Working with Taiwanese phone maker, HTC Corporation, they have created a 3G/4G handset running off the new Google Android 2.1 operating system. Palm Stock Price Takes Nosedive

Shares of Palm Inc. (PALM) fell sharply today when it revealed it was struggling in the smartphone market. Sharp increases in competition from Blackberry and iPhone sales have slowed the launch of their latest models. Because the Pre and Pixi failed to live up to expectations, Palm was forced to update their revenue forecasts. (more…)
