June Unemployment Update

According to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), the June 2011 unemployment rates haven’t moved much from the previous months. Our country is currently experiencing an 8.1% unemployment rate. Many of the North Western states continue to have the lowest unemployment rates in the country. This month, South Dakota knocked New Hampshire out of the third spot, for the lowest unemployment rates with their 4.8%. North Dakota and Nebraska continue to lead this list with rates at only 3.2% and 4.1% respectively. (more…)

Google Inc. is looking to expand it’s global sales by hiring 500 new employees. According to a Google spokesperson, the staff increases are being driven by a desire to keep the company to moving forward in a rapidly changing digital media marketplace. Chief executive Eric Schmidt had said during company results in October that Google would be stepping up recruitment, particularly in advertising from sales to mobile search. (more…)

Sprint Nextel Needs 100 Employees

According to a press release from Sprint today, they are looking for 100 employees to staff their Orlando Contact Center. In this horrible job market, it’s nice to see a company looking to hire so many people, while many others are looking to cut employees. Starting at 9am today, Sprint representatives will meet with interested job-seekers who to learn more about the positions. (more…)

Obama Adjusts Mortgage Program

President Obama’s administration plans to make some adjustments to his $75 billion mortgage program to account for the expected growth in foreclosures. They are predicting that over the next five years, there will be millions of foreclosures due to a poor economy and high unemployment rates. They expect the revisions will push the Home Affordable Modification Program to reach its target of helping 3 million to 4 million homeowners avoid foreclosure through 2012. (more…)

Unemployment Numbers – January 2010

January 2010 Unemployment Map
According to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), the country’s unemployment rate fell 0.3% in the month of January 2010. Unfortunately, if you compare the rates over a one year period, the overall US unemployment rate has jumped 7.7%. The southeastern and western US states continue to have the majority of high unemployment rates in the country. (more…)

U.S. Unemployment Numbers – January 2010 – Update

According to the regional and state unemployment numbers released by the BLS today, the average rate worsened between November and December of 2009. The most noticeable moves were in Mississippi and Louisiana with rates going up .8% in a month. Oklahoma took the prize by being the state with the largest decrease in unemployment with a .5% drop. The New York numbers show us going up by .4%, which is above the average .32% for this past month. (more…)

blsnov2009map On Friday, January 22nd, 2010, the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) is scheduled to release their regional and state unemployment data for December 2009. According to the November 2009 numbers on the BLS website, Michigan is leading the pack with a 14.7% unemployment rate, while Nebraska is sitting pretty with only a 4.5% rate. I’m happy to report that New York is battling a near average rate of 8.6%, but that still means many people I know are unemployed. (more…)
